Stretch Lefty: News

CD Preview Party @ Skully's! - October 12, 2007

Stretch Lefty, the genre bending, local heavy hitters of the C-Bus music circuit have been playing regularly throughout the city and abroad for two and a half years since the recording of their debut record "Lovebomb". The group has recently turned down several respectable independent record deals for creative freedom and decided to record the new material on their own terms with the same budget as an indie label production. The new record entitled "Universe Box" was recorded live at Ante-Up studios in Cleveland Ohio from August 18-24 where the group was sharing the studio with The Dave Matthew's Band, who were working on a project while in town for a summer tour. The record is being mixed and overdubbed at The Barbershop Studio in New Jersey and will be mastered by audio-engineer virtuoso Howie Weinberg, whose recent projects include The Deftones "Saturday Night Wrist", Gorillaz "Demon Days" and Mars Volta "Frances The Mute" as well as classic albums like Nirvana's "Nevermind" and Beastie Boy's "Licensed to Ill".

The sound of the new record is funky, hip-hop and reggae influenced and heavily groove oriented. Fans of "Lovebomb" will notice a slightly more somber, intimate song-writing approach, but will feel right at home with full-throttle-funk tracks like "Do What It Do", and "Dynamite". The band invited several guest musicians to improv sax, and organ as well as Columbus's own professional hip-hop enthusiast and founder of the fifteen-year-strong Hip Hop Expo, Dj BHB who laid turntables on two tracks.

On October 12th Stretch Lefty will perform the new album "Universe Box" in it's entirety for the first time and will make select tracks available for purchase via downloads on their My Space page as a preview to the album's physical release later this fall. Also on the bill are trance-inducing indie rockers Loyal Divide, and the always politically incorrect party duo, Ocean Ghosts. Come check out this rousing line-up of diverse hometown acts and be the first hear the brand new material from Stretch Lefty. For more info visit www.MySpace.com/StretchLefty.
